ORLANDOviols is a viol consort, inspired by the historical context of consort music but also by the sounds of our modern communication society. Although all members are successful as soloists, transparency and communication in polyphonic music and a common consort sound is of greatest importance to ORLANDOviols.

Harmony of the Spheres
ORLANDOviols Harmony of the Spheres is a concert programme based on cosmology during the renaissance. Historic philosophical and astronomical concepts from ancient Greece until the modern age are accessed through the music of the 16th and 20th century. The five musicians play on violas da gamba of several sizes, but also employ the potential of electronics and digital signal processing to craft musical concepts in space. Low-delay real-time spatial processing is applied to the instruments and presented via a multi-channel speaker setup. The composers range from Christopher Tye and the almost unknown Picforth via Johann Sebastian Bach to Steve Reich, John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
